It was the noble residence of the Marquis Natta d’Alfiano. The designer remains unknown, however we know that it was Giacomo II Natta, captain of the Ducal Guard of the Archers, at the end of 17th century, who started the works.
His daughter Maria Maddalena , Countess of Frassineto and Duke Ferdinando Carlo Gonzaga‘s well-known mistress, had more works done, before her exile in 1709 in Piacenza. On her death, in 1744, the palace passed to her nephew Joseph, who had it equipped with large stables (designed by Benedetto Alfieri) and refurbished on a project by Magnocavallo which included the staircase with a double fl ight of stairs, the stucco panoplies, the vases and the torch-bearing statues, the magnifi cent entrance hall, with the orchestra balcony and trophy and armour decorations in stuccoed papier-maché.
Bernardino and Fabrizio Galliari, brothers, were called to fresco the ceilings. The Marquis Natta died in 1796 , and the Jewish banker Emilio Vitta bought the palace from the heirs and had it newly refurbished. The Jewish family kept the house until 1915 when the building was sold to Ente Trevisio.
Today, after being closed for several years, Vitta
Palace lives again, has reopened its doors and has become a meeting place and a music and art lounge in the city centre.
