The palace, which is the seat of the Civic Library, fits perfectely with the other buildings that are part of the big complex of Santa Croce, former cloister of the Augustinians. On buying the palace, the Counts of Langosco made some important changes to the building. The most beautiful part (the grand staircase with two fl ights and the entrance hall) was built in 1776 on a project by Giovanni Battista Borra. The palace, in Gonzagas‘ times, was the seat of the Senate of Casale; the big entrance is still called the Senate
